Hey, bibliophiles!

How is your reading  year like so far? Good? Struggling?

We all have a story so it's okay.

Today I want to share with you my reading goals for the year 2021!

At the time of posting this article, I would have reached the half year mark so I will give you the update in that specific article.

Since I started getting back into the reading again 3 years ago, I began setting goals and tracking my reading which I never used to do but... It's fun! So, here we are.

I watched many reading vlogs on BookTube about setting reading goals but it wasn't until I watched a live stream video by Bookslikewhoa on the topic that I discovered that reading goals can be qualitative and quantitative. That is true and quite helpful. Since 2019, my goals were mostly quantitative but this year, I decided to add some qualitative ones in the mix.

My Reading Goals 2021

I have always loved reading but I think I loved reading more when I was just learning the skill. When I discovered that books were doorways to worlds that were opened to me at about 5 years old, I just wanted to explore those worlds all the time!

Now, as an adult, I want to read because books are attractive!

Fellow bibliophiles, you understand! The textures, the colours, the smells, the print that just begs to be read!

So, without further ado, here are my reading goals for 2021. I'm excited!

In 2021, I want to:

1. Set my Goodreads goal at 10 books because I want to read bigger books and classics like Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and more of Jane Austen's works because I completely fell in love with Pride and Prejudice..

2. Set my Kindle books goal at 10 ebooks because I want to ease into reading this year. I work from home but I seem to have less time to read for pleasure. A reading hobby should be fun or informative. Too much pressure takes the pleasure out of the hobby.

3. I want to complete/start a few popular series:

i. the Divergent series by Veronica Roth

ii. the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

iii. the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

iv. the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (The ninth book is to be published later this year.)

4. Read more BIG books or what we call "tomes". For me, those are books that are 400+ pages long.

5. Read more classic literature such as Jane Austen's published works and travel adventures such as Gulliver's Travels by Jonathon Swift, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.

6. Increase POC (person of colour) literature or books written by and featuring black or Latino characters.

7. Read more mysteries and thrillers. I have not had that book related adrenaline rush in a while. Nancy Drew fan over here!

8. I want to start a reading club at work before the school year ends in June 2021.

9. I want to create a personal challenge to ZERO my owned TBR (read all my own books) by December 31, 2021.

Apart from all that jazz, I really just want to read all the books I like!
